Sim or E-Sim?

I began my travels using Airalo, and had no issues whatsoever! Easy to buy on the go and install the esim yourself. Works everywhere with the global sim, or can buy per location. I found it super convenient when I needed quick access to the internet for Google Maps and other travel essential apps. It’s worth noting though, on comparing what I was spending to friends who have bought physical sims, I was spending more. Yes, it has been convenient so far - but I would recommend even just buying an esim for the first week while you figure out a better option. In my case I have now spent hundreds of dollars on Airalo when a sim would have been cheaper in the long run for such a lengthy trip.

A lot of businesses ask for a contact number as well, and with some esim plans you don’t have one - so when you’re booking a lot of accomodation and travel and want to be contactable, it would certainly be useful. I have since purchased a Lyca sim and can definitely say it’s a much better option financially if you’re sticking around for a while. Rather than continuously topping up an esim to get more data everywhere you go, the Lyca sim has allowed me to pay thirty pounds a month for unlimited data, and has so far worked in every country I’ve entered in the EU with no additional charges.

E-sim = short, planned travel

Physical sim = long trips
